Work Bond Program
Freehold Boro Little League is an entirely volunteer-based organization. Adult support and participation is essential for us to maintain a safe and successful league. We therefore ask each family to commit to a minimum number of volunteer hours each season. At registration, a $150 work bond is collected for each family. Upon completion of at least six (6) hours of documented hours, the work bond will be refunded. This document clarifies expectations and requirements. If you have any questions, please see a member of the executive board BEFORE the end of the season.
Why do we collect a work bond?
• Without volunteers, there would be no Little League! Each and every adult you meet at FBLL is volunteering his/her time: coaching, maintaining our facilities, working the snack stand, and providing other services that benefit not just our own children but the league as a whole.
• We collect a bond to motivate families to commit to the hours. We all start the season with good intentions, and some families have very real obstacles that prevent the completion of a full six hours. In those cases, we keep the work bond to offset costs incurred when we don’t have enough adult volunteers to safely maintain our facilities.
• Committing to volunteer at FBLL models good community service to our kids. When they see adults putting in the work to support an activity that is important to them, it sends a powerful message. They feel valued, and they learn that when we all pitch in the community prospers.
What counts towards work bond hours?
• Field maintenance: pre-season preparation (usually scheduled work days in March/early April); larger projects (repairs and long-term maintenance); weekly facility updates during the season (April-June); post-season cleanup (usually in early November)
• Snack Stand: shopping and restocking supplies; serving drinks and food items in the snack stand during games; cooking and operating fryer (reserved for captains)
• Coaching/Assistant Coaching: designated coaches and a limited number of assistant coaches per team, who consistently organize and run practices and are present at games. Coaches must complete safety training.
• Special League Events: such as All Star/District games in June/July; Family Fun Nights; Memorial Day parade organization, etc.
• Ad Hoc Needs: such as organizing FBLL Spirit Wear; BlueClaws outing; league Photo Day, etc.
• Board Membership: members in good standing are exempt from bond payment.
What does not count towards work bond hours?
• Team Parents
• Helping out at practice
• Please note:
o If coaching, this needs to be documented at the beginning of the season so that appropriate forms and safety training are completed.
o There will be times when additional adult help is needed—perhaps extra help at practice or a coaching substitution at one or two games. This is much appreciated, but at this time we are only able to count the coaches listed on the official team roster.
• The reality is that we will all put in time to support our children, their teams, and the league without “getting credit” for it. Please know that ALL of the time you are able to spend with us is needed and appreciated!
How do I keep track of my work bond hours?
• At registration you will receive a form to track hours. Use this to write the date and times of your designated work bond hours.
• The hours must be signed by league officials (coaches, board members) to verify.
• When the six hours are completed or the season ends, please submit the form to Mary Piotrowski (treasurer) or designated board member. Your work bond refund will be issued as soon as possible.
Again, we understand that abilities vary. Not all families will be able to complete the hours, and the work bond money helps mitigate some of the significant costs we incur as a league. Some families will go above and beyond, though. We appreciate this dedication to our league’s success, and rely on the generosity of time and talents of all
our families.
Thank you for your continued commitment to Freehold Boro Little League!
